Starting our campaign....., Team work project....

Hi everybody....
I always thought that knowledge should be directed to the benifit of the society, and I believe , as u may also, that our knowledge( as medical students ) has no real value if it wasn't reflected on our environment ( family, colleagues, ppl we know, ....etc)
Sorry for this introduction but it was necessary to make my point clear..
So , my idea is all about
* stating a target ( correcting bad behaviour, establishing healthy behaviour, improving some acts that affect the environment, encouraging Healthy cultural actions ) ........
* We may achieve this through simple ways ( disscusions , sending mobile messaages ( though expensive way |o|) , printing papers , sending instant messages .......etc )
* We may work on each target for a week for example and then we turn to another subject ...
* there could be a part in the forum for associated disscussions ( Kadem u asked for new ideas ......

I know some may not agree for such work ... but I always wanted to do some good work, free work , that may have some good effect for the sake of our environment .... plz tell any other suggestions ...ty

well Kadem, there are many possible topics , but I may mention 2 as examples:
1- could be the problem of " wasting pure water , at home, in street anywhere" , cuz this is a real bad habbit that may affect the lives of other ppl, and if it was stopped in a large scale , a real benifit of our society would be achieved...
2- As u know in western countries, they started to isolate the smokers from those who don't smoke in public places, I know thats difficult to achieve in Iraq, but at least we can start a habit that when someone wants to smoke he may go out in open place , so as not to harm other ppl with him in room....

Ok, nice ideas

Regarding the first goal, the water wasting, I think that we can make a difference if we can make people realize the amount of water they are wasting.
I think that we can collect some real info about the amount of water purification done in Baghdad or in Iraq per day, then find out how much of this production is wasted, and if we get these infos for sure we'll be able to make an email, a well organized one, and we'll send it to all, perhaps I can make a webpage or a website about those infos and we'll send the link as u said as instant messages or emails.
SO the first step is to contact people in charge of such thing, ministries, I'll try to search online, but I hope there's someone whose father or relative might be able to help us get real statistics...

Secondly, the public smoking, I think it's a really hard thing to do, coz it needs legistlations, and till now I don't think we'll be able to legislate such a law, and with lack of cooperation we won't be advancing much, but we can make a research, with figures and again as u suggested dear Ammoory to send those as email or any other way, hoping to awaken something in the smokers.

As for smoking I know an interesting fact, the Iraqis spend 10 billion dinars everyday on smoking, imagine if this money is spent on more useful issues.

Hi guys ... I think I can get some great info concerning water resources and wasting in Baghdad on Wed. or Thursday inshalla .....
We need some other ideas through members participations

P.S Kadem , concerning the public smoking , I believe that any legislation would come after reasonable public knowledge has arose.. I mean we can start disscusing it in our small ( college society ) , as a small start cuz as U know it could be one of the most important problems in my point of view.....

well my Idea is to concentrate on subjects one by one so as not to get lost
seriously two subjects as a start "water and smoking" I guess are quite enough to start with, let's do them then we can move on.

Hope you'll get those info Amoory, and regarding the smoking... ok y not? if u want u may start a topic about smoking (since there's already another hot one!) and let's hear more ideas about the PRINCIPLE OF SMOKING and see.... then we might be able to have some results concerning this topic that is not just from non-smokers, but also from smokers..
Do u know what would be really helpful? it's if some members told us their stories about how they started and (if lucky enough) how they stopped.
Then we'll be able to highlight the weak/strength points and work on them.

Thanks Hamooodi for the links, I saw them and they might be helpful, but wouldn't mean much to Iraqis! we'd still need the local info but we'll surely make use of those international ones.
