Egypt A Good Place To Stay in?, Study or Work? Neither!

Dear friends,

Because I am living in Egypt for a period of time, many friends from Iraq ask me about prospect of studying or working in Egypt.

The sad truth is that the Egyp authorities provide neither for Iraqis.

It is a hard truth to know that there is such a descrimination against us here. I have got my visa through (wasta=means) and they refused to extend it as it is the way for many other Iraqis here.

i know many doctors who came here for postgraduate study and ALL of them were denied this right and the authorities refused to give them residency visa.

If you want to study here or to live, you have to know many connections and pay a lot of bribes every where.

I will leave Egypt soon as I have fed up with their routines and rejections, and do not advice any one to come here.

When I first arrived here, I really thought that it is the most beuatiful country, "Um Al Donya" as they call it, but things turned out to be not what I thought.

Finally, I would stress that the people here are generally very nice, except many consider any foreigner as a tourist, and would do everything to take extra charge from you.

No wonder

I mean we; the Iraqis; used to such kind of treatment wherever we go...

I don't want to talk about politics but we must stop talking... It's just the way it is..

Anyway, I don't think that those Iraqis went to Egypt to seek higher education or work opportunities, they just wanted to live somewhere safe...

I agree with you that many Iraqis came here to look for peace of mind, and not study, but also when you have school-age children, you have to think about their education when you try to settle down in any country. And if that country does not give you this, why to stay there?

I agree also with you that it is just the way many countries are treating us like. But we have to remember that we have contributed much to the economy and people of all these countries, in the past and present. We deserve better than this.


Many Egyptians here tell you that they have lived the best years of their life time in Iraq. But I think no one want to remember that now.

I am sorry if I have provoked a political subject, but it is a problem which is part of our life, and not just political jargon.
