I do not want to go back to Iraq and "SHARE IN RE_BUILDING THE PARADISE" until I feel that my family will be
1- Safe and Secure.
2- Living comfortably, with no silly electric power cuts, silly salaries that will be enough to feed them bread and onions only.
3- Failing education system.

and the most imp. think i wish to add dear Dr. mohmad is
4- if the decision maker in iraq need me honestly not seemingly

I remember when Ahmad Hassan Al Bakir, the Iraqi President 1968 - 1979, used to visit his close friend, our Medical College Dean, Dr Tahseem Ma3alla in the 1970s.

He used to come on a regular basis, almost once every few weeks.

Now-a-days, it feels out of this world that you are standing with your friends in the yard in front of the Anatomy Hall (do they still call it that?) and a man passes by saying "Alsalamu alaykum", and it turns to be The Iraqi President walking by, with just a single body guard (I think it was Sabah Mirza).
Al Bakir used to love doctors.

He used to love the medical profession so much that his son Mohammed also joined our College for about 2 years before he was killed in a road traffic collision.
And then came Abu 3uday, who used to hate the guts of doctors.

I think the disrespect of doctors is a "conditioned reflex" that became ingrained subconsciously in the common Iraqi people psyche from the time of Saddam Hussain.

It is not a very well known fact that 3uday started his university study in Medical College. He only lasted 3 days and ran away to Engineering College for some obscure reasons.

Anyway. Iraqis can not do without doctors. Sooner or later, the balance will be regained to the advantage of the Medical profession. We will prevail at the end.

Cheers

Dr.Mohammed ,i do admire ur honesty and the way u r expressing yourself and the way u r defending ur family and this is the very natural and healthy way of how the man should think toward his family.

but i want to outline something important here, u estabished your life and ur family there in UK , and since im living in a forrign country I know exactly how the life is there ,u can't say that ur kids can ever live in iraq again, technically they are not iraqis now, they don't fell that they belong to iraq and im sure you are not so glad about this ,because after all ,one day we have to go back ,i know many ppl who used to live in europe from ages now and deep inside, they don't feel they comfotble because they've been detached from their home and all of them they do want to go back but they just can't ,not because iraq is not safe anymore for them, but deep inside they can't ,they feel that its not their home anymore ,infact DR. they are trapped in the middle now and i am sure that they will not know the taste of the true happiness anymore ,look at me ,i left iraq from only 4 years and i feel now i don't belong there anymore ,ppl did changed , the meaning of the virtue itself has changed allot , so we have to admit that leaving iraq and establishing life outside it is like saying goodbye for it for good, u will not be able to feel the same toward it but yet u will live with bitteness for all ur life .

Sorry for talking too much w inshalla i didn't bother anyone with my words ,

It is true that my children do not feel as Iraqi as I wish.

For their future and good life, I think it is still a price worth paying.

I do wish that Iraq becomes the best place to live on earth, in every aspect.

Sadly, this is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.

As soon as things improve, you will see hundreds of thousands of Iraqis returning back and wanting to stay.

Cheers

thanks Dr.s sara, nabeel, omar, khaluq, samar, omar emad, samer and Mhmd kh. for your frank reply

show business

Dr.Leo1984 is spot on and 100% correct in every word.

I couldn't have explained it better.

I arrived to Britain in 1993 and I had to start as a Senior House officer (SHO) for the first year.

Actually, my previous experience (12 years in Orthopaedics including 2 wars) worked against me.

When you apply for a job, they always go for the younger and less experienced person.

A consultant here usually thinks very selfishly.

The most important things for a consultant (in descending order) are
1- Private work (money money money).
2- Comfortable and quiet on calls (for themselves).
3- A Junior staff who will not challenge their knowledge.
4- A Junior staff who will not cause trouble with patients.

When the consultant is on-call, it is very important that there is an enough experienced Registrar in the hospital to take decisions and perform operations while the consultant stays asleep at home.

An inexperienced Senior House Officer (SHO) will not bother the Consultant, but will keep the Registrar awake all night. The consultant will not be disturbed. So, it does not matter whether the SHO is experienced or not.

An experienced SHO will actually "annoy" both the consultant and the registrar. He/she could be thinking that they are better than the registrar or even the consultant, challenging them frequently. This disturbs the pecking order and hierarchy.

An experienced SHO may also want to operate and interfere with the decisions of both the consultant and the Registrar. They prefer that the SHO just shuts up and stays on the ward “working like a slave” taking history, doing blood tests / ECG / cannulas / prescribing medications and filling administration forms.

So, the quicker you leave Iraq the better it will work for yourself. The older you are, the more difficult it will turn out to be.

If you have any experience, just keep it secret. They do not like "smart alecs" in the western countries.

Its Strange...
I always thought that the more I know.. and the more experience I get .. the more successful I'll become abroad.. and will grant me a better place.. !!

but I think the challenging part is what bothers them ( I guess Its the same situation here too ) not the knowledge part ..

Thanks for the Info. Mohammed.. Its truely helpful to share ur expiernces with us..
