I watched it yesterday in the cinema... Everybody was talking about it.. It's becoming a world-wide phenomenon.. For instance it grossed 70 $ million only in its first week at the U.S box office putting into consideration that its budget didn't exceed 60 million !!
Now and after 3 weeks so far it has grossed 162 million and it's expected to earn a total of no less than 500 million US dollars world-wide..

After all this hype info, I'll tell why it's got so good ratings and reviews..Simply because it's unprecedented.. Most of the movie is filmed on bluescreen and that indicates they wanted to add great effects to the resulting picture. It's kinda cartoonish and remarkably unrealistic.
The funny thing is that it's not based on a novel or an original screenplay material not even on a historical book. It's based on a 1998 comic book called 300 Spartans or sth like that and that's why it's so exaggerative. All the movie is about great animations and spectacular fighting scenes.
And to be impartial, I do mean it when I say magnificent animation, viusal & sound effect, art direction, and ground-breaking fight scenes.

I'd categorize it as a gore movie. In other words a movie about brutal fighting, death, severed limbs and heads where one man fights and kills 50 men and an elephant in a single fight scene

For me I don't totally regret the money I paid to watch it but if I knew it's like this maybe I would've watched another one..

well i saw the trailer and it was great,
i made some search and some said it is an old greek mal7ama, and some say it is based of the comic book.

i watched it some days ago. it's a good movie.

there's one scene in which the king tells his followers sth like, " have a good breakfast for tonight we dine in hell" this is really feka, i liked that

this movie "300" strengthening the confidence in one's own courage .. not just for the violence and fight .. but in taking such a serious decision like fighting a huge army .. but LEONIDIS realized that this army contain many servants but much less soldiers .... indeed this was a great motivation and it was a victory by it self

i liked most when he asked about the profession of his soldiers so they said "AHOOOO" ...
