The CV (Curriculum Vitae) is a very important document to advertise yourself in a competitive job market in the Western World.

Getting a good CV gives you a good chance to get a job.

When I was in the UK, I noticed that all the application forms there for jobs ask you
if you have any published work.

When I asked some of the British doctors there, I discovered that many of them have at least one published article in a famous journal when they were students.

I had successfully submitted an article to the British Medical Journal which is about to be published soon. And believe me they are intersted in the idea not in the style, if you have a good idea, they will publish it.

So, I want you all to consider writing an article in any subject and then send your idea
and the draft to one of the medical or non medical journal to get published.

For example, you can write an article about the online survey you did thrugh this forum that states that 70% of the students want to travel abroad after graduation.

My suggestion is to try studentBMJ journal which is a medical journal for medical students.

I am willing to receive your ideas and drafts to review them through my e-mail.

The most important thing when you want to write an article is the idea. Let us take
the survey issue.

First you Start by briefly outlining the history of our College and some of its international achievements and participation in International educational activities.

Then you also briefly outline the effect of the embargo and the wars of 1991 and 2003 on the College in particular and the educational system in general, you have to support these facts with references.

Then you mention about the online survey that you have conducted through this web site and the number of students participated in it.

And then you draw some conclusions about this dramatic fact that most of out students want to get out of Iraq, and the impact of this on Iraq and other countries that will accommodate these doctors.

So, the main parts of the article will be

Introduction

What was the method of the survey?

What are the results?

What are your conclusions and recommendations?

And believe me, you have to start writing your first draft, and then make changes as appropriate.

PS. i was wondering about the title you use (Physician Tutor) whether you use it becoz ur a physician and a tutor at the same time ? or is it a title related to your department (physiologic chem. dep) becoz if it's due to the second choice then i think u should use the term (physiology tutor) not physician (becoz the latter is used for those who practice medicine) .. yet im not so sure about it .. anyway thanx !

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you about my title which is
given to us by the College.
There is no such a post in UK hospitals and Colleges so I faced a lot of troubles to explain to them what is really my job.
I think the best description that fit us is only (tutor), regardless of being a physician or not.
By the way, on the payroll, we are classified as
فنيين
i.e., not on the permnant staff of the College.
So, it does not make a difference if they add the physician or not.

i noticed this topis is very intersteing to me and that's why i liked to post here.
thanks allot dr. for this topic,but i guess as you went to UK life for iraqi doctors is not as easy as we imagined,it's too hard and very difficult and i am afraid that all what we had in our college they dont admitt it,so don't be shock if you will find out later that all what we have done in our college will not be appreciated by other countries ,not only europian countires or USA but also in some arabic coutries.
really it's unfair to treat us like this..i was always saying no our degree is good,we are fine.we will be able to catch up with other students out there but the fact ic completely different.

Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry I gave this impression for you by saying that I have faced a lot of troubles in the UK, but what I meant by "diffculties" is explaining the differences in systems and titles between the two countries (Iraq and UK).

Believe me Iraqi doctors are highly regarded any where in the world and our College degree is one of the best a doctor can get.

But of course, the way we are treated in many countries is unfair, this is due to the fact that many countries are refusing to accept to train foreign doctors and they want only the most professional ones.

I have applied for training job in a gulf country and the criteria they asked are exactly what I have got, but they refused to shortlist me, and when I called them, their reply was frankly that they dont want Iraqi doctors because the government there dont give them a visa to stay.

If this happen in the UK for example, you can sue them for discrimination, but in arabic countries this is the norm.

So, keep the faith and confidence in our College and degree, and do your best to get the most of your education.
