let me state from the begining that Im not trying to ignore the rules of the forum by asking a seemingly political question. i'd like to look to that question as a way to study a society and a unique condition which had put two troubled groups of people to spot light demonstrating what a change has happened in the past 100 years .
Senator Hilary Clinton, who once was the first lady managed to run for the presidency herself . and if she will win she would become the first female president for the united states. the fact that a female figure can run the most powerful nation at the time being is tempting for all feminist (including myself) ....i mean what is most powerful message than that to demonstrate the ability of females to function as good as men fellows?
on the other hand
Senator Barack Obama, who is one of only 5 African-American individuals who managed to become senators and now he is running for presidency. if he will win he would be the first African-American president of the USA . again this fact will tempt many people to vote for him..people who believes in gender equality, black people in general .
the question im asking here which one do you think will win? and if you have been giving the chance to vote who will tempt you more to see being a president?a female for the first time or an african american for the first time?
Regards Farah

Of course for Obama, it's a man's job
loooool wallah too7a kidding, just to tease u!
la I voted for Obama in your poll, I haven't been following much but he seems to be a more suitable candidate, I just like him much more than Clinton. But in a more generalized manner... I think the win of an african american is more significant that the win of a woman, coz african americans are minority in the US society while women would constitute around 50% of it... so the win in my opinion would be harder (if we neglect who's he and who's she) Coz I think if another woman was running she would have had better chances than Hillary, coz she's not a lovable character, alot of people hate her including lots of americans... so her failure doesn't mean the failure of women, her failure would be her failuer only... if u know what I mean...
Well if people get the true meaning of your topic I guess it would not stray off the rules of the forum... so I suppose it's alright....
Cheers!

i would vote for obama , cause he was very firm about the withdraw of the the troops , and he said he would open diplomatic channels with cuba and south korea....so i see he is putting america on the right track.

topic 7lo
((if i were american......)) i would vote for clinton..........her husbands adminstration at the white house was one of the most succesful for the americans...
she is experienced..... he is not.........
she stands for national healthcare.....and she got aplan how to pay for it.... he stands for lowering the costs.....
her only fault the she voted for the war against iraq.......but she wants to correct it with an immediate withdrawal of the troops....... while he wants agradual withdrawal.......
so i would vote for clinton.......but i think....60% obama would win....40%clinton would win.......if you ask me why..!!!!! because all blacks are voting for obama....while not all whites are voting for hillary nor all the women nor all the latinos..... she got amajority among women and latinos but by 60%........while he is getting 85% or 90% among blacks....
(people hate to say that they are racists but the fact is they are......).
Hour_Glass- 02-27-2008
Hey,
I voted for Clinton in my pool Im fascinated by her eloquence and personality though i honestly Feel that Obama will win. i do think clinton is more experienced (just like medical boy) while obama is not . she is older than him by 14 years besides i think by the effect of being the first lady for a while she gained more experience.
i guess what medicalboy said is right even if clinton is getting like 60% of the whites votes and from females yet i bet obama will be getting 80-90% of blacks votes(race is a big "if not the biggest issue" for blacks yet for whites is just one of the issues!) but also let us not forget that the blacks are a minority in the US so his 90% might not help that much.
the war against Iraq for Americans is just one of the issues not like for us Iraqies meaning i don't think this will be the crucial issue who will determine which one will win . the funny thing that they are adapting a very close and similar points of view in various issues both wanna withdraw the troops, wanna provide a better health care and so on ...and this is not surprising cause both are democrats .
the interesting thing in my opinion is that he has the (race card) to play. she has the (female card) to play while being close in other points of view ...i don't recall a major issue they disagreed upon .... who knows?!
i would love to hear more about what you think

nice topic .. well if i was an american i would vote 4 obama ... i think america is in need of a profound change in the way that it relates to the world .. and it's not going to come from Hillary because i think however she tried to follow a new strategy, it won't be that different from her husband ... and she didn't do that much when she was the first lady ... in the other hand Obama who came from white american mother & black kenyan muslim father ... growing up into 2 different places with different people who had different ideas ... so i think he will be able to run in a diferent way .. and to treat all his citizens equally without looking to their color or religion ...
medicalboy- 02-29-2008
well i think that one of his problems is with his religeon........his father was an amuslim and his mother was achristian.........his father died when he was two years old.........so he became achristian.........((((Barack Obama Religion: Christian; attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago))))taken from cnn ......and ofcourse that was taken as anegative thing by some people.........just in the last debate in ohio linking obama to extremists......while he insists that he is not....... so that thing about him would become aproblem i guess...........
i read the above answers and just want to tell you that (((if obama was awhite not black and with the same opinions and same stands.........he is never never gonna win.....if he is to win because he is black....DOT PERIOD))).
and i just hate to decide something based on race ,religeon or where do you come from??? that is just wrong..........
if the blacks were voting for hillary and obama won then i would say its in the best of the country...........
regards.

Really surprised to see many of you following the campaign trail I do appreciate Farah raising the topic, although I think the philosophical aspect of the subject should the focal point of our discussion rather than fixating on Obama and Clinton. For that it's more significant.
Let me first address some of your quotes:
QUOTE (medicalboy)
but she wants to correct it with an immediate withdrawal of the troops....... while he wants a gradual withdrawal.......
That's kinda the opposite. He uncoundtedly said he intends to have all the troops withdrawn in a specified time (that being around 18 months.). While she want to start withdrawing them right away but with without allocating a time for the complete withdrawal.
QUOTE (Farah)
Im fascinated by her eloquence and personality though i honestly Feel that Obama will win
Exactly. I like what a CNN analyst said once "he made campaigning all about joy and passion" or at least his campaign puppet masters did . That's why he's scoring big time with the young vote.
QUOTE (Louay)
ما اتوقع هناك يفكرون هيجي
The polls says so my friend. He's getting more than 80% of the African-American vote. She only has a lead among white women.
QUOTE (dr.gardenia)
and it's not going to come from Hillary because i think however she tried to follow a new strategy, it won't be that different from her husband ... and she didn't do that much when she was the first lady
That's just wrong. Firstly, because when she was a first lady their GDP per capita was no.1 or 2, their economy was safe and sound, and there wasn't a war. In other words, America didn't need change at the time. Secondly, she didn't have experience at the time she was a first lady haven't been elected to the senate yet. Thirdly, now is the time when everybody is yearning for change.
QUOTE (dr.gardenia)
and to treat all his citizens equally without looking to their color or religion
This is how thing already are in th US. Has been so since affirmative action had been introduced
Now me, if I was American and had to choose between Obama and Clinton I'd go with Obama cuz he's better. But in a hypothetical situation where I was American and had to choose between a female and an African-American with both sharing the exact same standpoints I'd go with the woman cuz women and more discriminated against in our time.
I mean everybody in America is more afraid to be regarded as racist than sexist. That's why I think for this very time the race card will outdo the gender card.
Finally, who will win? I'm fairly sure that Obama will be the Democratic Nominee as he's leading in delegates as well as polls nationwide. Sadly however, I 'm not sure he'd be able to beat John McCain in the general election in November simply because Republicans (except for young ones) won't vote for him. Independents can be easily scared out by his middle name. And most importantly he'd surely lose the highly populous Southern Republican strongholds just like John Kerry who was in a similar position at the time.
