Hello all, I am eager to conduct such poll since I was very curious in the last few days on the number of medical students/doctors who believes in some sort of way that alternative medicine could be used to treat patients and I want you real answer, and thats what I mean mean, think about it really seriously before you make the vote.

Well yes Omar, alternative medicine is a wide vague subject but I put it all its categories in one criteria, since there are believers of all its branches, and I majorly believe it requires belief and only belief to make anyone of them to work on patients some sort of "way" !

doddi- 11-18-2008
as omar said I believe in some & i'm strongly against the other alternative medicine

so I choose yes

muhanned- 11-18-2008
Guys,Girls, what I meant by "etc" that anything else u believe in ..no matter if it is not listed or u r not believing in the other. I just simply wanted to figure out the proportion of medical related people believe in usual medicine that relates on mainstream scientific line(chemistry,physics,genetics..etc).

i don't believe it and my opinion comes from personal experience to treat my migraine . i tried pressing on certian lines or points of energy and sorry to say but it is crap!!!

Hey guys, this is a very interesting subject, specially that we never get to study complementary and alternative medicine therapies.

OK, so, when we study the treatment of a certain disease, the therapies that are recommended were mostly tested in clinical trials that assess the efficacy of these therapies compared to a control group or to a placebo.

this implies that our beliefs in certain therapies should be coming from our knowledge of the results of these trial [EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE] not merely our opinions, even if based on experience, because this experience can be biased since various circumstances can affect the resluts.

SO i looked up Complementary and Alternative medicine evidece, and it seems that some modes have actually demonstrated benefit in patients with certain diseases, while other modes remain with unkown outcome due to mixed results from several trials or the absence of such trials.

and Dear Dr Farah, the treatment with compression on certain energy lines is termed REFLEXOLOGY, it is not recommended to treat Migraine but rather used for pain in patients with cancer, i found out that biofeedback and relaxation techniques are used for migraine. I wish it works for you. Hope that its not bothering u anymore...

So, this is not my opinion this is what i found by research.

cheers.

Dear Dr.Samer:

I was refering to something called Shiatsu which is:
technique refers to the use of fingers and palm of one's hand to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses.

Now, this might be a drift from the main subject but since you brought ( evidence based medicine) up i would like to comment :

as far as Im concerned a good doctor should use both Individual experties and the best available external evidence
(i.e, systematic research, clinical trials...etc.) in treating his/her patients.
but for me if my personal experience is bad about something, i would be reluctant to recommend it for others .how about you?

regards
